JAN. 24

We will finish up the presentation of the topics about the West in class.

There will be an in-class activity to wrap up.

You will take a quiz on Chapter 17. Freebies were: Chief Joseph, Crazy Horse, Oliver Kelley, and the goal of U.S. government Indian policy.

Start working on the thesis paper on the “Geronimo” article. It will be due Monday.

Jan. 28-29

Use the provided study guide to prepare for the Chapter 16-17 Exam. Assigned text notes from CH 16 and T-charts from 17 will be collected for grading. You may use, but will not hand in returned graded assignments from the chapters.

Also due will be 3 assigned questions on Portrait #4 about the rights of women in the West.

Start looking for your sources for your research paper topic. I expect that you will make use of the subscription databases, American History Illustrated or American Heritage (periodicals available in the cybrary and perhaps on Proquest) and numerous print sources. Remember, no encyclopedias are allowed for this research.

Jan. 24-25

We will finish the T-charts on CH 17 in class.

Due from you will be your research paper Thesis Statement Development Assignment (example is provided in your research paper assignment handout and on the Cybrary Research website)

as well as

Your Bio Poem on either Chief Joseph or Sitting Bull. Must be wordprocessed and have a picture of an Indian on it. (It would be nice if that Indian was the one you are writing about)

Jan. 15

You have an introductory assignment on Chapter 17 due. You had the opportunity to start on it in class last time.

Jan. 15

You have a Newsweek assignment due–there were three options on the handout.

Jan. 14-18

Jan. 15-16 Your research paper topic is also to be signed up in class. It must be linked to at least one of the AP History themes. Chapter 17 Intro Assignment is due

Jan. 17-18 Assigned section of the T-chart is due. Facts and terms oin the left side of the chart. Have read Portrait #3 (Vol. 2) and answered Q. 3 and 5.

Look ahead on the assignment handout that was given out on the 15th and 16th. Note: You have a research paper assignment due (word processing required) and a test on Chap. 16 and 17 next week. I would recommend on working on some of that over the coming long weekend.

Jan. 7-9

In class we discussed the assassination and the reasons for Johnson’s Impeachment as well as its outcome.

Assignment:

You are to complete reading the chapter–taking note of candidates in the elections of 1868 and 1872 and their outcomes, as well as what kind of president the winner is.

You are also to read the article about the 1876 election for an in-class activity (no thesis paper on this article).

Jan. 7-9

In class I modeled the Political Cartoon Analysis form. You then broke up into groups and did a political cartoon analysis of your own on a selected cartoon. These will be presented on Wednesday. You were also assigned to complete at least the first page of the Flag Etiquette worksheet by class time on Wednesday.
