Nov. 28-29
In class, we took a quiz on Chapters 11-12 and you handed in your work/notes for those two chapters.
We started on Chapter 13 and 14.
You received a reading “To Make Them Stand in Fear” Thesis Paper on that reading will be due 12/7.
Assignments:
Start reading Chapter 13. Complete Chapter 13 questions.
Nov. 28-29
In class we continued watching the Scottsboro movie and taking notes on it.
We also took the Amendment Quiz.
Assignments:
Political Cartoon Analysis is due
Political Ideology Diagram work is due
You should be working on your Illinois Constitution Study Guide (be sure to stop by my room (153) to pick up a book to help you with it).
You should also be working on your research essay. Rough draft of that essay will be due December 4.
Illinois Constitution Study Guide due and Illinois Constitution Exam will be December 6.
Don’t forget that the write up of your attendance at a local government meeting is due very soon–you should have already attended the meeting or have one to attend in the next week.
Nov. 28-29
In class, your family group worked together on the Chapter 12-13 Quiz. Notes for the two chapters were collected.
You picked up handouts and assignments for Chapter 14.
Assignment:
Complete #1,2,4 on the Chapter 14 Assignment packet.

Nov. 15-16
In class, we finished Amendment One and then started discussing the limitations for Amendments 4-7.
Assignments:
Be sure your shared court case is ready to present.
Complete the questions on the Court Case packet.
Remember to attend a local government meeting and submit the report.
Start working on your paper on the topic you signed up.
Nov. 15-16
We took Exam #2 in class. Thesis Paper on “The Great Chief Justice” was handed in.
Assignment:
• Answer first three questions on the Chapter 11 sheet
• Complete your highlighted reform–Check numbered info on the back page to be sure you have covered all the info you should have.
Nov. 15-16
We finished watching a movie about religious/utopian reform in class and discussed it. We went over the DBQ process. We reviewed the reasons for westward expansion in the years prior to the Civil War.
Assignments:
• Take Home Exam is due. Only chance to hand in for full credit. There will be an extra credit opportunity in class on Monday-Tuesday. Notes from the Chapters will be collected.
• Complete Chapter 12-13 Packet, Activities 1 and 3. Get started on 2.
• Donner Party E.C. activity will be due first class after Thanksgiving break.
Nov. 13 and 14
In class we took a quiz on Chapters 8-9. Chapter 9 notes were collected.
We took notes on Chapter 9–Andrew Jackson
Assignment:
• Thesis paper on The Great Chief Justice is due
• You should thoroughly complete your study guide for the Chapter 6-10 Exam which is Friday.
Nov. 13 and 14
In class–homework was collected–Newsweek and the Political Cartoon Analysis.
We finished Amendment One examination.
Assignment:
• Read in Text about limitations for the 4th trough the 8th amendments.
• Research your case
• Begin working on the case packet
Nov. 13 and 14
In class, we completed sharing information about the pre-Civil War reforms and saw a portion of a film about the religious/utopian reform groups that attracted Americans to join them as an alternative to the stresses of American society at that time. We briefly discussed the Portrait on the Nat Turner rebellion and the work on that was collected. I deferred the examination of the DBQ until next class so you have alittle extra time to get it done or make revisions in what you did.
Assignments:
• On the Chapter 12 and 13 packet (distributed in class), complete the requested list on the front page. Note that you can’t go to Chapter 12 and find that list to copy. You will need to put yourself in that time period and creatively extrapolate reasons why people who lived east of the Mississippi River at that time would have been interested in move to the west.
• Get started on taking the indicated notes
• Get started on Activity #1 and Activity #3 (Activity #3 is a read and highlight that summarizes the most important points of Chapter 13.) These are numbered at the top right hand corner of pages within the packet.
• As I pointed out in class–there will be quite a bit of homework for the following class so you will benefit from getting as much of the “get started on” work done ahead of time as possible. Is it, of course, your choice.
Nov. 7-8
In class I answered questions on the Chapter 8 note organization sheet.
Then we took the Chapter 8-9 Exam.
The political cartoon analysis was collected with the test notes.
Assignment:
Complete the Chapter 10-11 Assignment Notes a-f. You will need the Industrialization handout (my poor artwork sheet) for this.
Complete the requested information on your highlighted Social reform on the Social Reform packet. You will find the information for this in both Chapters 10 and 11.
For the class after you will be responsible for:
Reading and highlghting in the Utopian reform packet
Portrait 15 work
DBQ process assignment
